This occasional blog will feature my own musings on politics, dogs, visual impairment and anything else that takes my fancy. If anyone finds anything interesting, that’s fine. If they don’t, that’s also fine.
At the time of writing in 2024, I have been retired for a year and am enjoying gardening, walking my dog Mabs and excursions into bread making and other odds and ends. I was a translator for most of my life and am fascinated by language.
For all my life, I have been out on what people call the “left” of politics, but have become convinced that the terms “left” and “right” have little meaning now. I have been deeply disappointed by the trajectory of the traditional “leftist” parties of Europe, and especially the Labour Party in the UK. It seems to me that wherever you look, there is no major party in any European country that is genuinely concerned about the fate of ordinary working folk. It is sad to watch once-proud parties of the working people parroting the neo-liberal line and doing nothing to stop the wealth gap from widening.
I lost much of my eyesight about 13 years ago, but still manage to get out and about and live independently.
And, after my beloved old dog Sheba passed away last year at a good age of 14 1/2, I now have a young rescue called Mabs, who very much keeps me on my toes!
And all of that will feature in the sporadic posts that I shall be making here. Perhaps you will even find out a little about the Wirral, where I live.
Where I have incorporated photos or video, they will generally be my own, and, as I don’t see a great deal, they will quite probably be wonky or out of focus. Live with it. I do.
